CINEMA IN 1949 AND THE 1950's

In 1949 "The Third Man" opens in London, 1950 in Germany, the U.S.A. and Austria. In 1949 "The Third Man" wins the First Prize at the Film Festival in Cannes and is awarded the Oscar for Best Camera for a Black and White Movie in 1950. In 1999 the British Film Institute elects The Third Man as "Best Film of the Century".

Our collection shows items from premieres as well as from numerous rereleases: Cinema posters, lobby cards, programs, campaign books, invitations, previews and much more. The items come from more than 20 different countries: Great Britain, the United States, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Sweden, Spain, Mexico, New Zealand...

A highlight of every visit in the museum is the screening of a key sequence of "The Third Man" with the historic cinema projector "Ernemann 7b" from 1936. These machines were used to show The Third Man in Vienna in 1950!
